Juan Pablo Segura was sworn in as Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs on August 14, 2026. Before joining the State Department, Juan Pablo was Secretary of Commerce and Trade for the Commonwealth of Virginia for Governor Glenn Youngkin. As Secretary, he was responsible for growing Virginia’s more than $710 billion a year in GDP economy and managed the state’s international trade portfolio. During his time in the administration, Virginia set records in new capital investment attracted, streamlined more than 35% of all regulations across the state, and retook the coveted #1 state to do business title by CNBC.

Prior to entering government service, Juan Pablo spent a majority of his career focused on starting businesses and transforming antiquated industries. In 2014, Juan Pablo began his first company called Babyscripts that has gone on to revolutionize how prenatal and postpartum care are delivered through the power of technology. The company’s platform was named one of the 150 most innovative healthcare technology companies in the world by CB Insights and he has received multiple recognitions for his work including Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Greater Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Entrepreneur of the Year finalist by Ernst Young, and Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the DC Chamber of Commerce.
