Dan joined the Michigan Chamber of Commerce in 2017. As the Director of Tax Policy and Regulatory Affairs, Dan is responsible for developing and advancing legislative and regulatory proposals and agendas representing Chamber members’ interests on tax policy and economic development as well as other miscellaneous regulatory issues including but not limited to alcohol, tobacco, gaming, zoning, and technology.
Dan also leads the Michigan Chamber’s efforts on education and workforce development issues and maintains and organizes the Chamber’s federal outreach efforts.
Dan started his career in Lansing as the Chief of Staff to the Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, which provided him a front-row seat to some of the most significant tax policy changes the legislature and Governor undertook in decades. During his time in the Senate, Dan worked on a myriad of different legislative and political issues.
Following his time in the Michigan Senate, Dan led the government affairs efforts of a multistate trade association in one of the most regulated industries in operation. Spending considerable time learning the intricacies of alcohol, tobacco, petroleum and food regulations, Dan was able to diversify his policy areas of expertise considerably.
Dan grew up in Macomb County, Michigan, and holds a B.A in Political Science from Michigan State University. He is a graduate of the Michigan Political Leadership Program and is working his way through the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Institute for Organizational Management Program (IOM). Dan is also a fellow in the U.S. Chamber’s Business Leads Program.
Since Dan started working for the Michigan Chamber, he has been recognized by lawmakers, lobbyists, association executives and other Lansing insiders as one of the most influential lobbyists in Michigan as part of the MIRS/EPIC-MRA Insider’s Survey.
Dan is the current President of the Michigan Political History Society and a member of the board of directors for the Michigan History Foundation. Dan regularly speaks to chambers, trade associations and other groups across the state and country about ballot proposals and key legislative and regulatory issues.
