Thompson Paine is Head of Geopolitics at Anthropic. Since joining in early 2023 to help build and scale the company’s product and commercial efforts, he has held leadership positions across Product, Operations, and Policy. He led Product Management and Strategy & Operations from the GA release to billions USD in revenue of our web, mobile, API, and public sector products, as well as the launches of Anthropic’s Claude 2, 3, & 4 generation models.

Paine is concurrently an Adjunct Professor at Vanderbilt University Law School, lecturing on the intersection of emerging technologies, law, and U.S.-China relations. He is a Life Member of the Council on Foreign Relations and proficient in Mandarin Chinese. Previously, Paine led strategy and operations teams at Stripe and Quizlet, and served in the Political Section of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. Paine holds a B.A. from the University of North Carolina and a J.D. and M.B.A. from Stanford University, during which time he was an exchange student at Peking University Law School.
