Arthur Gailes is a research fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he focuses on housing markets, housing finance, and mortgages.
Before joining AEI, Mr. Gailes was an economist and data scientist at the Othering & Belonging Institute. Previously, he was the University of California, Berkeley, coordinator of California Fair Housing Taskforce, creating the state’s Opportunity Maps used in siting Low-Income Housing Tax Credit housing. He also served as an international economist at the US International Trade Commission.
Mr. Gailes was the manager of the Housing Supply Initiatives and a senior data analyst at the AEI Housing Center before becoming a research fellow. Working closely with the AEI Housing Center’s codirectors, Tobias Peter and Edward J. Pinto, Mr. Gailes has coauthored a variety of reports and created data and AI products on increasing housing supply, light-touch density housing, and the use of federal land for housing.
Mr. Gailes has a master’s in applied economics from Johns Hopkins University and a bachelor’s in English from George Mason University.
