USIBC Roundtable Discussion: Scaling the capabilities – GCC Ecosystem and Maharashtra Strategy

Event Description

Dear Members,

The U.S.-India Business Council (USIBC) invites you to a Roundtable Discussion on Scaling the capabilities – GCC Ecosystem and Maharashtra Strategy in Pune on July 21, 2026.

GCCs in India have evolved from simply being back office operations or costs centres for companies to becoming centres of excellence, critical enterprises supporting research & development, strategic innovation hubs, etc. As of December 2025, ~1,700 global capability centers exist in India. The combined revenue of these GCCs has jumped from $40.4 billion in FY19 to $64.6 billion in FY24, growing at a healthy pace of 9.8% annually.

Maharashtra is emerging as a strategic anchor for India's data centre ambitions, leveraging its digital infrastructure corridor, submarine cable proximity, and a state policy offering incentives on land, power tariffs, and stamp duty. The state policy implemented late last year envisions attracting 400 new GCCs and creating 400,000 high-skilled jobs by fostering industry-academia partnerships, promoting cutting-edge research and building talent pipelines. It focuses on expanding beyond metro cities to Tier-2 and Tier-3 regions and offering fiscal and non-fiscal incentives to global multinational corporations.

Pune is also home to 500+ GCCs, with firms from 30+ countries across 20+ industries, accounting for ~14% of India’s GCC units and ~9% of total GCC talent. With these encouraging numbers, the discussion will focus on what has worked for Pune as a GCC hub, limitations that the industry continues to deal with and the opportunities and strategies that need to be considered for this sector’s growth story to align with the ambitious targets of the Maharashtra Government – opportunities, challenges and the road ahead.
