Investment Task Force featuring Dr. Albert Zeufack - 2/14/2022

Event Description

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s U.S.-Africa Business Center (USAfBC) launched an Investment Task Force to focus on U.S.-Africa investment trends and policy priorities that enable a favorable investment environment across the African continent as well as increased capital flows between markets. The task force serves as a platform to discuss creative financing opportunities and assist members with the mitigation of perceived challenges impeding trade and investment, as well as deal flow. Through this task force, the U.S. Chamber pursues partnerships with the U.S., African governments, and multilateral institutions.
Following the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak and its unintended effect on economies around the world, the African continent has experienced its first recession in 25 years. The crisis has impacted both smaller and larger economies and exacerbated the weak health systems while increasing the social and economic fragility in the continent.
African leaders are currently grappling with the difficult decision of balancing the need to boost their economy and sustaining their debt level. To weather this crisis and build back better, African countries will need a robust contribution from the private sector through external financing to supplement the stretch domestic resources. This could be achieved by embarking on a number of reforms to improve transparency and the business environment while ensuring macroeconomic stability.
As we are adjusting to a new virtual normal imposed by the pandemic, the U.S. Chamber’s U.S.-Africa Business Center is engaging with development and financial institutions to provide an opportunity for the Chamber’s member companies to hear their perspectives on Africa’s economic outlook and the potential resources to support the continent’s post-pandemic economic recovery.
