Quantum 101: Perspectives on the Race for Quantum Supremacy

Event Description

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber Foundation are co-hosting a quantum event in advance of World Quantum Day on April 14.

Quantum is on the brink of transforming computation across all fields and industries, echoing the impact of the Internet’s early days. Quantum computers will unlock new capabilities in national security, finance, military affairs, drug discovery, aerospace, energy, and beyond.

Despite “quantum” becoming a buzzword in Washington, understanding of the technology remains limited. Many are unaware of how the technology operates, the stakes in the global innovation race, the implications of lagging behind, or the progress already made in bringing quantum to market. The Center for a New American Security projects that by 2035, quantum computing will amass a global market value of $1 trillion.

The event will feature:

William Hurley (Whurley), CEO of the quantum computing startup, Strangeworks. Whurley previously served as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs after his startup, Honest Dollar, was acquired by the firm. He is a respected voice in the quantum world and a well-known author of Quantum Computing for Babies and Quantum Computing for Dummies

Heather Higgins, Research Partner for Industry & Technical Services at IBM. Heather has served as a thought leader at IBM in various capacities throughout her career, and currently leads IBM’s collaborative efforts with top American businesses as they relate to quantum computing. Through her current and past roles, Heather possesses unique insight into current business use cases for quantum as well as the path to commercialization.

Congressman Frank Lucas, Chairman of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee of Science, Space, and Technology. Chairman Lucas represents Oklahoma's Third Congressional District and has served in Congress since 1994. He is a leader on science and technology policy issues and is the lead sponsor of the National Quantum Initiative Reauthorization Act.
