The U.S. Chamber’s Southeast Asia Program is pleased to invite you to welcome discussion and reception with H.E. Lui Tuck Yew, Singapore’s new ambassador to the United States. We will spend the first hour in discussion with Ambassador Lui as he settles in to his new position following the end of Ambassador Ashok Mirpuri’s near 11-year tenure. This is an opportunity to hear Ambassador Lui’s thoughts on his previous post in Beijing, his hopes for his time in Washington, DC, and have an exchange on member company priorities. We will then adjourn for additional informal mingling during the reception.
Prior to his appointment as Singapore's Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Lui Tuck Yew served as the country’s ambassador to the People’s Republic of China from 2019 to 2023 and ambassador to Japan from 2017 to 2019. Mr Lui was the Minister for Transport from 2011 to 2015 and concurrently Second Minister for Foreign Affairs from 2011 to 2012 and Second Minister for Defence in 2015. Mr Lui was Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts from 2009 to 2011. He was first elected as Member of Parliament in 2006 and served as a Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts until 2009.
