Clean Energy Procurement Discussion
Event Description
A Market-Altering Shift to Clean Energy Procurement: Over the past decade, corporate clean energy procurement has contracted for close to 150 GW of clean power capacity in the US and 350 GW globally. As GHG Protocols updates its rules around Scope 2 emissions and clean energy procurement, fundamental aspects of this market could change: buyers and seller will get disconnected and contracting practices upended, driving concerns around project bankability. The US Chamber of Commerce has asked S&P Global to publish a market study to assess how proposed rule changes could shift market participation, procurement practices and clean energy deployment by extrapolating historical market behaviors (e.g., transaction-demonstrated WTP for clean power) and bringing together the perspectives of clean energy buyers across industries, renewable developers and financiers.
