Join the conversation as Goolam Ballim, Chief Economist and Head of Research for the Standard Bank Group, breaks down President Ramaphosa’s efforts to accelerate the pace of South Africa’s economic reforms and the potential for these changes to help jumpstart the nation’s economy. In a series of decisions announced in June 2021, the President advanced the partial sale of South African Airways, increased the threshold for companies to produce their own electricity to 100 megawatts, and declared the creation of an independent ports subsidiary of Transnet. Learn more about how the economic and political implications of the President’s efforts to address inefficiencies in the economy.
