Trade tensions between the U.S. and China is putting rare earth minerals in the political spotlight. These minerals play a vital role in several industries, including consumer electronics like cell phones, green technologies such as wind turbines and electric car batteries, medical scanners, and military hardware such as F-35 jet fighters. Today, China provides most of the world's supply though this may be changing.
